Meet Carmen Buis

Hi, I'm Carmen, and I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I have an MSW from the University of Missouri and have been a therapist since 2014. I counsel teenagers (13-19) and adults with PTSD, anxiety, and depression. I specialize in EMDR therapy and practice DBT through The Current

Therapy can be a big step in your mental health journey, so it's important that you feel safe when you take it.

I personally know the long-term, disruptive effects of trauma and the peace that therapy can help achieve. Because of this, I'm committed to facilitating your growth and helping you see the light at the end of the tunnel. I can help by creating a space where you can be yourself and share your stories without fear of judgment. I will listen to you intently, and together, we will find the approach best suited for you. This will help you heal in your own way, at your own pace.

If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to me

What is EMDR?

Green Green Leaves with Dark Blue Stems

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)

EMDR helps you cope with adverse life experiences by addressing the root of the problem. The root can be a traumatic event from childhood or even more recent years. EMDR uses eye movements to process one event at a time. My role is to facilitate that by helping you stay focused, reminding you that you are in a safe place, and helping you navigate your thoughts and emotions.

  • How does therapy work?
In therapy, I will help you reflect on your life, thoughts, and feelings. I will give you tools to cope with your struggles in a safe way through EMDR and other techniques. Imagine the skills you build in therapy as an anchor that helps you feel secure in yourself when you're caught in the riptide of harmful thoughts.
  • How do I know if I need therapy?
If you are struggling in your life or feel stuck, you could likely benefit from therapy. My clients are often tired of going around in circles, sometimes don't respect how they are living their lives, and want to find solutions for breaking the cycle.
  • How often do you see your clients?
I see my clients once or twice a week depending on what they're working through. Some of my clients like a monthly check in.
  • Do you offer Telehealth?
Yes! I do offer Telehealth and have a few clients currently doing Telehealth sessions. Many of my clients use this if an emergency comes up and they can't physically make it to their appointment.
  • How do I schedule an appointment?
I encourage new clients to fill out the contact form. Existing clients can schedule and appointment by emailing me, calling me, or setting up a time at the end of your appointment.
  • What insurances do you take?
I currently accept United Healthcare and private pay.
